Sprite Sheet Slicer — Split a Sprite Sheet into Frames

A sprite sheet slicer cuts one sprite sheet image into separate frame images. Upload your sheet, set the columns and rows (or the frame size in pixels), check the green grid lines, and download every frame as a numbered PNG in a ZIP — free and entirely in your browser.

When You Need to Cut a Sprite Sheet

Sprite sheets are efficient for games, but plenty of tools want individual frames: animation editors like Aseprite, video editors, Spine and DragonBones, web animations, or simply editing one frame without touching the others. A sprite sheet cutter splits the sheet back into one image per frame.

Most sheets are uniform grids, so you only need two numbers. If you know how many frames are in each row and column, slice by columns × rows; if you know the frame size (for example 32×32 or 48×48), slice by size and the tool works out the grid. The green overlay shows exactly where the cuts will be before you export.

Enable “Skip empty frames” to drop transparent cells at the end of a row — common when a sheet's last row isn't full. Frames are numbered in reading order (left to right, top to bottom), and the included JSON atlas records where each frame came from.

  • Slice by columns × rows or by frame size
  • Live grid overlay before export
  • Skip fully transparent cells automatically
  • ZIP of numbered PNG frames + JSON atlas

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I split a sprite sheet into individual frames?

Upload the sheet, enter the number of columns and rows (or the frame width and height), confirm the grid overlay lines up, and click Download frames. You'll get a ZIP with one PNG per frame.

What if my sprite sheet has uneven spacing or padding?

This slicer handles uniform grids. For sheets with padding between frames, slice by frame size equal to the frame plus padding, or use the frame size that matches your engine's import settings.

Is the sprite sheet cutter free?

Yes — free, no signup, no watermark, and processed locally in your browser.

In what order are frames numbered?

Left to right, then top to bottom, starting at 000.

Can I turn the frames back into a sprite sheet?

Yes. Use the GIF to Sprite Sheet tool for animated GIFs, or generate a fresh animated sprite sheet from a character image with Spritesheets.ai.

Need a Sprite Animation in the First Place?

Upload one character image and Spritesheets.ai generates walk, idle, run and attack sprite sheets for you.
