01What Is a Tileset?
A tileset is a collection of same-sized images (tiles) — commonly 16×16, 32×32 or 48×48 pixels — that a level editor paints onto a grid. Instead of drawing a huge background, you build worlds from a few dozen tiles: grass, dirt, water, stone walls, dungeon floors, platform edges and decorations.
The hard part of making tiles is that they must be seamless: the right edge has to continue the left edge and the top has to continue the bottom, or the grid becomes obvious the moment you repeat a tile. Spritesheets.ai's tile generation is designed for this — it produces repeatable textures whose edges wrap, so a single tile can cover a whole area without seams.
Describe the surface you need ("mossy dungeon stone, top-down", "grass platform, side view", "lava"), choose pixel art or HD and the tile size, and generate. Keep the same style preset you used for your characters and the tiles will match your cast.
Generated tiles export as PNGs you can import into Godot's TileSet editor, Unity's Tile Palette, GameMaker tile sets, Tiled, or LDtk. For autotiling, generate your base material first, then variations for edges and corners.
